Is infrared LED different from ordinary LEDs?
Is infrared LED (used in tv remote controls) different form ordinary LEDs which emits light.
The appearance of infrared LED is the same as ordinary LEDs. But they are different in emitting, so application is different.
Wavelength:
Infrared LED: 850-940nm,
visible light: 380-780nm.
Application:
Infrared LED:
Wavelength: 940nm, for remote control, such as remote control of household appliances;
Wavelength: 808nm, used in medical equipment, optical communication, infrared lighting, solid laser pump source;
Wavelength: 830nm, for the automatic credit card highway system (the best night vision system, you can see a little red light on the die, the effect is better than 850nm);
Wavelength: 840nm, for Color Zoom Waterproof IR camera;
Wavelength: 850nm, for the camera (video recording) digital photography, surveillance, building apartment intercom, burglar alarm, infrared waterproof;
Wavelength: 870nm, for shopping malls, crossroads camera.
Visible LED: illumination, decorative lighting.
Infrared LED used in TV remote controls wavelength usually is940nm. Because Infrared LED is in wide wavelength, the emitter and receiver should be matched well, or it would efforts the sensitivity of remote control, even can stop them working. When you go to buy a new remote controller, you need to to know its emitting wavelength.
