How can set up my DVD Recorder with my DirecTv DVR?
I have a DVD recorder and I want to hook it up to my DirecTv DVR so I can record some of the things on it. What do I need and how can I do it?
a lot of direct TVs programing is copyright protected. so you may end up with really bad recordings.
the back of your dvr has composite outputs. (yellow, red, and white) if your dvd recorder has composite inputs, then you just color coordinate your outputs to inputs
if your dvr is a model r22, then you have component outputs also. (green blue and red) as well as an hdmi output. component outputs only transmit video. so you will need composite cabling to transmit audio. in this case, you would color coordinate red audio to red audio. white audio to white audio. then green, blue, red to green, blue red. provided your dvd recorder has those inputs. component is going to give you a much better picture than composite.
hdmi will give you the best picture. but since there is only one hdmi output in a direct tv r22 dvr, you probably will want to plug that into your tv.
